Issue Position

I believe everyone should have access to health insurance and preferably a universal health care system. The President and Republican Congress' repeated attacks on the Affordable Care Act, Medicare coverage, and Medicaid availability caused the recent dramatic increases in Maryland medical insurance rates and instability in the medical insurance industry. If the Republicans have their way we are going to see rates go even higher and tens of millions of Americans will have no insurance at all. Access to quality health care makes sense good economic and budget sense. Healthy workers are more productive, less costly to a company, and support a robust American economy. The Australian universal health care system, offering some of the best health insurance in the world, proves that universal systems can provide better care than the United States system at roughly ½ the cost.
